Florida 3A State Duals
DeLand 47, Buchholz 25
DeLand jumped out to a 12-0 lead by falls from Tyler Bracero and Phoenix Krauth before Buchholz got on the scoreboard with a decision by Jedidiah Brown and a fall from Cavarius Liddie. DeLand led 12-9 heading into the 138 lb. match … Kellen Chapman, Joshua Folsom, Mathias Franz, and Zane Canada helped DeLand gain control of the dual and pushed the lead to 32-9. A major decision by Steven Szabo gave Buchholz life at 170, but that was quickly extinguished by Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro who won a 6-2 decision at 182. Buchholz would get wins from both Kason Nichols and Bryan Diehl, but it wouldn’t be enough and DeLand punches their ticket to the Elite 8.

Hagerty 36, Timber Creek 33
Wild one between Hagerty and Timber Creek. Timber Creek jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Hagerty was able to put together several wins in a row to wrestle control of the match. Decision wins by Gavin Nelson, and Logan Acey-Krieghauser as well as a forfeit by Nikolas Blake and a fall from Benjamin Wolgamuth put Hagerty up 18-9 after six matches. Timber Creek inched closer with falls from Andrew Wittenberg at 152 and Micah Wittenberg at 170 (which sandwiched a fall by Hagerty’s Kamdon Harrison) to make it 24-21 heading into the final 5 matches. Two Hagerty decisions would prove huge in the final outcome … a 7-5 decision by Connor Gilliam over Daniel Pacheco at 182 and a 5-4 sudden victory win by Landon Revis at 220 were the difference in the end.

Palmetto Ridge 39, Riverdale 31
Outstanding battle between two of the top programs in 3A. Defending State Champs Palmetto Ridge needed big things from their heavyweight … and he came through in a big way with a fall over Scevie Young to push Palmetto Ridge in to the Elite 8. Palmetto ridge jumped out to a commanding lead (18-0) after the first three matches, but Riverdale wasn’t going to go away. Ayden Balma and Zachary Balma got the Raiders back into the dual with a 4-2 decision and a forfeit to make it 18-9. Jean Valoria (Palmetto Ridge) and Cristian Varela (Riverdale) traded falls as the dual moved past the halfway point with PR in control 24-15. Riverdale’s Alex Soto received a forfeit at 152 to narrow the dual to 24-21 and Cade Best downed Ty Bechtel in sudden victory to tie the score at 24. Aurelius Walton won a decision for Palmetto Ridge at 195 and Houston Brand downed Jordan Peralez at 220 to make the score 33-31 … all coming down to the big guys to settle it.

Cypress Bay 70, Western 12
Cypress Bay won the first 7 weights and led 40-0 before Western got on the board with a fall by Omar Faris at 152. Cypress Bay would end up winning 12 of 14 matches and “bonused” in every one of those wins to cruise to a 70-12 dual victory.
South Dade 58, SW Miami 16
South Dade and Southwest traded punches early with Adrian Ochoa getting a fall at 160 followed by Lawrence Rosario answering that with a fall of his own at 170 to make it 6-6. Dade’s Chris Sanchez earned a major at 182 and Southwest’s Ordonez picked up a forfeit at 195 to make it 12-10 in favor of Southwest. That would be as close as the Eagle Empire would get to pulling the upset … the Bucs checked off six wins in a row from 220 through 126 and never looked back.
