Florida 2A State Duals

Lincoln 39, Gulf Breeze 30

Lincoln won the final 5 matches of the dual to take the 39-30 win. Gulf Breeze jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Lincoln bounced back with a fall from Zakary Jurado at 120. Coby Shields, Nathan Weber, and Michael Mancuso pushed Gulf Breeze back into the lead (18-6), but the inability for Gulf Breeze to get bonus points would end up being the difference. Both teams finished with 7 wins apiece, but Lincoln bonused in every win (Gulf Breeze bonused in 3 of the 7). Lincoln was down 30-12 when Connor Edwards started the comeback at 170. Israel Williams added a 14 second fall, Jakob Nowak had an 11-3 major decision, and Kendrick Scott earned a 22-7 technical fall to put Lincoln in the lead 33-30 heading into the final match. Tyder Luck pinned London Taylor at 285 to push Lincoln into the Elite 8.

Lake Gibson 51, Winter Springs 19

Tristan Vann bumped up and got the Braves started off with a 3-2 tiebreaker win at 220. Malik Emptage put Winter Springs into the lead with a fall at 285, but that would be the last time the Bears would be in front. Messner, Lowe, Fretwell, and Brown all secured pins for Gibson as they pushed the lead to 27-6. Ryan Phillips, Josh Alter, and Elijah Penton would get wins for the Bears, but in wouldn’t be enough as Lake Gibson cruises and books another trip to the Elite 8.

Tampa Jesuit 41, Manatee 30

Jesuit leaned on their hammers to get by a tough Manatee squad. Jesuit gave up forfeits at 2 spots and needed big win (and pin) from Luis Trejo at 220 to get the win and advance. Jesuit handled their business from 113-160 (inserting Chancellor Haber into the lineup and bumping McCall, Young, and Cody), but needed Trejo to secure the win.

Miramar won the first 5 matches and never looked back on their way to a spot in the Elite 8. Michael Syzcmanick and Jake Kavannaugh had wins for St Thomas, but it wouldn’t be enough as Miramar won 12 of the 14 matches.
