Jensen Beach 41, Cardinal Gibbons 30

In a battle of small-school heavyweights … defending State Champs, Jensen Beach downs Cardinal Gibbons to advance to the Elite 8. Jensen Beach got off to a fast start with wins by Jewell Williams over Frankie Florio 9-7 at 145, Dylan Fox over Bryan Picallo 6-0 at 152, and Colten Byrd 5-4 over Nicholas Lopez at 160 to put the Falcons up 9-0. Mater Lakes 34, Somerset 29

Another huge dual between two of the top programs in 1A. Each program won 7 matches … the difference came down to bonus points with Mater Lakes tallying 4 falls and Somerset getting just one (and a forfeit). The two programs traded punches to begin the dual with each getting a win and a bonus point victory (Somerset with a forfeit at 152 and MLA with a fall at 145). Mate Lakes took control at 170 with a Calogero Mazzrillo decision, a fall from Emmanuel Nazco at 182, and a fall from Kevin Breton at 195 making the dual 24-9 at the halfway point. The two teams traded falls at 220 and 285 making the dual score 30-15 with 5 matches remaining. The Somerset lightweights were tough … Jake Austin won a 7-6 UTB over Mason O’Dell at 106 and Jovani Solis and Tristan Sainz added major decisions, but it was Bruce Li’s major of Dylan Fernandez at 120 for Mater Lakes that pretty much sealed the win (if Velasco and Sainz had gotten falls they could have pushed Somerset ahead, but it didn’t happen).
