Hernando downs Weeki Wachee and Mt Dora to advance

Second Round

Hernando 39, Weeki Wachee 34

Extremely good dual between very competitive squads. Each team won 7 individual matches. Hernando had 4 falls and a forfeit plus a solid 9-4 decision by Morgan Johnston to start the dual at 190. Weeki Wachee had 4 falls, won an 11-2 major decision Dominic Pace at 113, and two really tough decision wins at 285 and 132. Daniel Young’s 1-0 win at 285 and Levi Chancey’s sudden victory over Cael Phillips at 132 kept Weeki Wachee in the hunt, but giving up a forfeit at 138 would ultimately be the difference. Hernando punches their ticket to the Elite 8.

First Round

Weeki Wachee 54, The Villages 30

A good battle back and forth between Weeki Wachee and The Villages. Weeki Wachee’s Jordan Jandro started them off on the right foot with a fall of Owen Stillinger at 175, but The Villages responded with falls by a pair of Caudill’s at 190 and 215 (Andrew and Ethan) to put The Villages up 12-6. Daniel Young received a forfeit at 285 for Weeki Wachee and we were all square at 12-12 after 4 matches. Nick Guy and Dominic Pace put Weeki Wachee in the drivers seat with two quick 1st period falls at 106 and 113, but The Villages’s Jonathan Overstreet kept them in it with a fall at 120 making the dual 24-18 at the halfway point. Once again forfeits would be huge as Weeki Wachee’s Rory Smith received a forfeit at 126 and Levi Chancey pinned Blaze Sellers at 132 to put Weeki Wachee in command of the dual 36-18 with 5 matches remaining. The Villages’s Karson Stanage kept them in it with a fall at 138, but another forfeit at 144 to Oliver Bevins along with falls by Ryder Richardson and Diego Maysonet would seal it for Weeki Wachee.

Hernando 47, Mount Dora 27

Forfeits would play a huge role in the Hernando/Mount Dora dual as well. Mount Dora simply couldn’t overcome forfeits from 106-126 (24 points) as they lost 47-27. In matches there were wrestled (9 in all) - Mount Dora won 5 of the 9, but there are few teams that could give up 24 points and still come away with a dual win. Hernando also yielded a forfeit at 190, but will need to put it altogether to beat Weeki Wachee and advance to the Elite 8.
