Harmony downs Viera in a close one to advance to the 3A Elite 8
Second Round
Harmony 39, Viera 30
The Takeaway: Back and forth match that would end up on Harmony’s side in the end … with Harmony winning 8 of the 14 individual matchups. Both teams won close decisions in 4 matches that determined the outcome … Harmony got 2 big decision wins from Michael Shanabrook (9-7) at 165 and by John Fernandez (12-11) at 175. If those two matches go the other direction we have a different dual outcome.
First Round
Viera 41, Freedom 33
We had a feeling this one could be fairly close. Viera used their middleweights to establish a big lead and a fall from Jordan Hayes sealed it. Freedom got 6 from Xavier Santiago, but it was falls from Alex Giglietti, Elan Bennett, and Brian Mitchell that proved to be huge. Camren Baker got a tough 7-2 win over Blake Townsend and Derrick Davison won 10-2 over Isaac Velazquez and Viera maintained control of the match early on. Viera led 35-9 with 5 matches remaining when back to back falls from Elijah Alvarez and Chris Aubain gave Freedom a shot … but Hayes fall for Viera at 190 sealed it and Viera marches on.
Harmony 58, Ft Pierce Central 20
Harmony jumped out to a big lead on Ft Pierce Central and never looked back. Falls by Nathan Lyttle, Tristan Horn, and Landon Davis put them up 18-0, an 18-6 major by Gabriel Mascimento, and 2 falls from Carlos Rodriguez and Carson Estrada pushed the Harmony lead to 34-0 before FPC could get on the board. Jayden Romanello had a nice 15-0 technical fall for Ft Pierce Central, but Harmony went back to work with 3 consecutive falls from McCallister, Gomez, and Shanabrook as they cruised to a 58-20 win.
