Suwannee downs Rocky Bayou and Florida High to advance

Second Round

Suwannee 42, Florida High 30

Assuming our starting weight above is correct … we began the dual at 106 where Suwannee got off to a fast start with falls by Eli Jolicoeur and Topher Pearson (a solid 1-2 punch for the Bulldogs). Jasper Croom had a fall for Florida High and Justin Contreras had a solid 6-4 win over Reis Suskey at 126 to make the dual 15-6 heading to 132. Consecutive falls from Sterling Hollingsworth and Troy Carroll put the dual 15-15 after 6 matches … then Suwannee took control. Falls from Christian Socarras, Austin McKinney, and Brenton Middleton would end up being huge for the Bulldogs. Marshall White’s 11-9 sudden victory win over Nicholas Roeder put Suwannee in the drivers seat 36-18 with just 4 matches remaining (a note … Florida High was deducted a team point at some point in the match … still there were 24 points left on the board so they still had a shot). Xander Hawkes gutted out a tough 3-2 decision over Ben Lewis and Jordan Haigler put up a 10-2 major decision win over Clay Starling to narrow the Suwannee lead 36-25. Collin Bishop received a forfeit for Florida High and IF the dual began at 106 then we sat with a 36-31 score heading into the 285’s. Sam Ballard’s fall for Suwannee punched their ticket and pushed Suwannee to another Elite 8.

First Round

Suwannee 62, Rocky Bayou Christian 15

Rocky Bayou entered this matchup with a tough hill to climb - they ended up forfeiting 4 weights and 24 points is tough to overcome. Rocky Bayou got wins from Jeremiah Heron, Tugger Crum, and Wyatt Moore, but they were simply overmatched in the dual and Suwannee advanced with a 62-15 win.

Florida High 45, North Bay Haven 36

Good dual that appears to have been a back and forth battle. This is a perfect example of a race to 8 … 97% of teams that get 8 individual wins in a dual end up winning the dual and that was the case here. Florida High had 8 wins with 7 by fall to down North Bay Haven 45-36. Even if James Oliver could have gotten the win over Jasper Croom (a 7-6 win for Croomat 120) - bonus points for Florida High would have been the difference … regardless they advance to take on Suwannee.
