Baker County advances to the 1A Elite 8

Second Round

Baker County 42, Fernandina Beach 29

Looks like it was a wild one between Baker County and Fernandina Beach. In a match that saw two unsportsmalike penalties against Fernandina Beach and some very close decisions … Baker County punched their ticket to the Elite 8 (I believe it is the first-time in school history). Baker County had 6 falls (which were key), but two decision wins that ultimately were the difference. Kristian Chancey downed Remington Housley 13-7 at 190 and Joseph Stronko beat Peyton White 6-5 in the ultimate tiebreaker and those 6 points would prove decisive. Benny Lewis battling Enzo Gamba to a 4-2 loss was also huge for Baker County as they advance.

First Round

Fernandina Beach 60, Union County 23

Fernandina Beach rolled to a 60-23 win over Union County. Union County gave up 3 forfeits early and dug themselves a huge hole that they couldn’t come back from. Fernandina Beach finished with 5 falls starting with Enzo Gamba at 165 and finishing with Henry McDuffy at 285 to push them into the 2nd round.

Baker County 50, Episcopal 30

Baker County got some quality wins from 120 to 144 to push their lead to 26-6 after the first 6 matches. A fall by Turner Glenn gave Episcopal life, but consectuive falls by Keith Ratliff, Benny Lewis, and Tommy Rollins pushed Baker County into the 2nd round.
