The Blue Comets come into the 2021-2022 on a mission. Just read Coach Berrier’s quote below and you can tell this team feels like they have unfinished business and are ready to take on all-comers in the new look 3A. The Comets lose 5 quality Seniors to graduation including State Qualifiers Cruz Parral, Elijah Hildreth, and Trevor Goldstein.
That means the returners (and there are many) and some new faces will need to step up to meet the challenge. The squad is led by Seniors Luke and Logan Lambeth as well as Yu Chen. Logan Lambeth finished 4th at 170 a year ago and is ready to climb higher on the podium in 2022. The Comets will also look to Junior State Qualifier Xavier Santos and others. NC 3A is deep and if the Comets are going to push for the title they will need Manuel Jacobo, Michael Brady, and others to make an impact. Keep an eye on freshman Alex Patino.
“With a season filled with dual matches, we scheduled the toughest schedule we could. We took 2 losses on the season to what was ranked the top dual team in 2A and 4A by 6 points or less. We beat teams to work our way to the number 1 ranked dual team in 3A in North Carolina according to 2 different polls. This years team is returning 4 state qualifiers and a big junior class who fell short in some spots despite freshman records of over 40+ wins and .900 records going into regionals as sophomores just missing qualifying in the blood rounds. We plan to be back at the number one spot as a dual team and take the dual team state tournament as well at the 3A individual state tournament. We are excited about the competition that is coming up from 2A and coming down from 4A. The spring and summer have been spent sharpening our tools with out of state training/matches and in-state pre-season tournaments.”
