Somerset downs Mater Lakes 30-29, Jensen Beach beats Gibbons to advance to the 1A Elite 8

Somerset 30, Mater Lakes 29
This dual did not disappoint. Each team won 7 matches … ultimately it came down to bonus points with Somerset getting 2 falls and 1 forfeit (18 points) from Jovani Solis, Luis Bellon, and Kendrick Hodge (in the final match of the dual). Mater Lakes countered with a fall from Anthony O’Dell and a forfeit to Kalias Nazario. Two matches went to sudden victory with both teams getting a win on extra time (Bruce Li over Matteo Gonzalez 4-2 at 120 and Eric Hodge over Malikai Badillo 7-5 at 144). An absolutely fantastic dual that should happen in the state finals (or semifinals) - not with a spot in the Elite 8 on the line.

Both Somerset and Mater Lakes took care of business early to setup a showdown of two of the best programs in 1A this season.

2nd Round
Jensen Beach 54, Cardinal Gibbons 21
If the dual began at 106 - Jensen Beach left little doubt who the defending champs were as they won the first 7 matches - 5 by fall and 1 by forfeit to lead 39-0 before Bryan Picallo could put Gibbons on the board. Jensen Beach made a statement in cruising to a 54-21 win and did so without Sebastian Degennaro in the lineup. Look out for Somerset vs. Jensen Beach next Friday morning.
